And speaking of electrifying action, content come to the right place again, as always, for tonight's show, you're gonna have myself and I'll be joined by Jordan Trudeau in just a few moments. The agenda of the show tonight, we are gonna have a little brief roundtable, just yours truly. Just get to look at me and hear me for a few minutes before Trude's comes on in to talk a little chuck a puck. And if you're on video, you got to see me throw a pretend puck because we don't want to throw it inside our new studio here. And at the end, we're going to have Top Chad Druz is going to be joining and substituting for Justin Heel today on Top Chad. So to start off the show, look, I'm a humble guy. I'm a very humble guy. Some people may not agree.
Some people may agree. And as I say that as a joke and for you to maybe interact with it, I'm going to do a little strike zone piece to myself here. We're keeping the strike zone in the pocket a little private to myself here today because we're obviously just myself and Jordan, but I'm. There's a reason. There's a rhyme. There's a reason the brewers and Rays, who called it? This guy. Did
[00:01:40] Speaker B: you? You. You called it. It
[00:01:42] Speaker A: did.
[00:01:42] Speaker B: You called it. You did. You did. And
[00:01:44] Speaker A: there's Jordan Trudeau. He did, ladies and gentlemen. Okay, we'll get back to truths in just a second.
Called it. Third straight year, brewers at the time of this recording are up 2 0. All right, 2, 0. By the time you hear this or see anything, it might have already been passed. Might be two one, might be two two, might be three, zero, might be four. We don't know. But I can tell you, the brewers are a team of destiny. Let me tell you, this team, ever since first pitch of the year, I said, there's something special. They got a guy who throws 105 miles per hour. This team, I've been to that ballpark. I've seen that fan base, their passionate fan base. They haven't seen one, not a World Series at all. And funny story, when I was there, I made a bet with a guy in front of me that Kirk would hit two home runs that game or I'd buy his whole section of a cold one. And guess what? His second home run that he hit, he gave me my wife 50 bucks and bought us a round. And it was he honored his bet. I love the brewers fans, brewers nation, whatever you call yourself, that is a fan base that deserves a championship. And they're going to get it. I'm going to say it right now. They are going to get it. Now, that might be outdated news by the time you hear this again, but let me tell you, the question that I want to interact to have you interact with is did the two best teams make the World Series?
I thought this was a hot question because obviously you got the Dodgers, you got the Yankees, you got teams that are could have been in this World Series. And the Rays, top team in the AL East. Obviously the Rays are a good team, but I've never been convinced by the Rays all season. I thought they were beatable. I thought they were overachieving for the entire year of the year.
And the brewers, realistically on paper, aren't better than the Dodgers. So is it fair to say the two best teams made the World Series? No, it isn't.
I will say the brewers, 50% of that, are the best team that made the World Series and not the Rays. And no, it shouldn't have been the Jays on the other side. People are going to say wow to this, but I think the Yankees should have been the other team from the al, but they just can't get past the curse of this playoffs that they're going through. And look, it's fine. You've won 27 championships. You could take a little backseat for a while, let other teams win like the brewers have the chance to do this current week. Do the two best teams make the World Series? Comment below and let me know and we'll have more for next week when it comes to strike zone, as we have hopefully Connor joining with Trudeau and myself now. A little bit of in the pocket. I look, I'm substituting in for a little bit of in the pocket here for Justin, who's away sick today.
I'm going to choose three fantasy players for you to choose this week and five matchups for you to keep an eye out on. And those five matchups I think you got to make sure you take the winners and I'm going to pick those winners in those games for you. You. So the three players for your fantasy, if you're looking in your league looking to trade for somebody, looking to pick up, okay, Omar Cooper Jr. Okay. Jonah Coleman and Casey Corporation from the Browns. I likely butchered his last name, but I did that on purpose because I want you to roast me below for how he say he's got the coolest name in football. But those, Casey, Jonah and Omar are the three players that you want to look at taking for NFL and for fantasy this week. For the matchups this week there's a lot of doozies of matchups. Vikings and Lions. That is going to be a money game. The Vikings unexpectedly one of the best teams, best team in the National Football League right now. But guess what, it's going to all come down to an end. The Lions taking them in that game against the Vikings. You got the Ravens and Bills. That is a great matchup. Exciting matchup. Whenever you got the Bills, you got the Ravens. Going to be a high scoring game.
Bills in that game, Chargers and also the Rams. I'm going to be taking the char the. Not the Chargers, not the Chargers in that game because I feel like the Rams are still getting up to their momentum. This is a game where you want to take the Rams, Chiefs, Broncos.
Can't count out the Chiefs in any game. Okay. But this is going to be one exciting matchup. It's also going to be another surprisingly defensive game. Feel like you're going to see a lower scoring game than people anticipate. I take the under but Chiefs in that game and now the next game that I would take is the Bears.
The Bears are playing this week and I had to double check the time because you have to make sure that the time goes back this week. Okay, ladies and gentlemen, fall back games are happening and as I pull up, I want to make sure I pull up the right time for you. You got the Bears and Seahawks this week and their kickoff game, which is what I want to look at is at 8:15. It is the Monday night game and the Bears and Seahawks, Seahawks have not been what I thought they were going to be at the start of this year.
[00:06:32] Speaker B: No, that's for sure.
[00:06:32] Speaker A: That is for sure. Maybe for Seahawks fans they can agree on. I am taking the Seahawks though in that game. Going to be an exciting game. Those are my matches. Viking, Lions, Ravens, Bills, Chargers, Rams, Chief Broncos, Bears and the Seahawks on the Monday nighter. Gonna be a doozy so quick breath, strike zone in the pocket in a matter of five minutes, getting you all that blitz, little World Series reaction and in the pocket. We got 40 minutes left on this edition here, Trudes, and we got a lot of hockey content to cover. 40 minutes. Okay. And very excited about it. Oh, yes. Okay. And we're gonna start with Chaka puck. We're going to be chucking that puck pretend wise. But before we do that, Trude's looking good. Oh, thanks, my friend. Officially introduce you now.
[00:07:21] Speaker B: Thank you.
Hello, everyone.
Once again, I didn't teach today. It was a PD day, so I'm kind of a bit underdressed. But I chose to rep the Greyhounds latest playoff merch.
Which I thought, I thought it was pretty cool even though they didn't go as far in the playoffs last year. But I thought it was a cool slogan and, and they just, they're doing a good job with merch lately, so we'll give them a little shout out for that. Yep. I haven't gotten any new, new stuff lately, but I've been looking at online and the online store and Hound pound, obviously. So, you know, great, great things there. Go have a look.
But yeah, I'm doing well. Slow start to the week, but it's gonna heat up with some greyhound hockey coming up.
[00:08:05] Speaker A: Oh, this
[00:08:05] Speaker B: coming back to the GFL here. Yes.
[00:08:08] Speaker A: Little road trip.
[00:08:09] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:08:09] Speaker A: right. Little road trip. And some big nice matchups this week, especially this upcoming Friday.
[00:08:15] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:08:16] Speaker A: But speaking of big matchups. Okay. Trudes and I want to make sure I discuss. Look at the standings. Okay. So the standings. Right now we got. I want to talk about some early season surprises. So I'm going to whiz through a couple things here.
You got Branford, who's leading the way over 10 and three is what they're in their season. You got Sudbury nine and three. You got Kingston nine and five.
You have the Ottawa 67 seven and three, those around out the top four. And if you go over in the Western Conference, you got the Guelph Storm, obviously in the charge of the 103 record. The Hounds 9 and 4. Not the greatest weekend this past weekend. We'll talk about that. Flint nine two and one. You got London, who was eight and three, who just brought in new goalie. They made a trade. Yep. Look, from a standing perspective, if you want to look at the other side of it, you have the Perry Colts who are at the bottom. You got the Brampton Steelheads who are at the bottom. From the eastern side. From the west, you have kind of a unique little bottom. Like there's, there's a lot of room for ultimate, but you obviously got the Owen Sound attack down there and you got Windsor down there. I don't mean that in an obvious way, but I'm saying from a, from a standings perspective. But if you look at a 58 record, you know, if you look at that over in the, in the Eastern Conference, you're just underneath the middle of the pack.
So from a standings end the NH the NHL. Yes, the ohl.
This year has had some early season surprises. Truths. And I want you to go through some of those early season surprises. Who sticks out to you that are early season surprises in the Ontario Hockey League?
[00:09:45] Speaker B: Well, I mean I guess for surprises we're looking at like a team, I want to say like the, the Kingston front necks or even a team like the Kitchener Rangers.
Like you're looking at a team that won the Memorial cup last year being kitchener. They lost three defensemen, three NHL drafted defensemen. They lost their first line, Sam O'Reilly, Jack Pridham, Luca Romano and they're still battling for home ice right now and they're really, really putting a really solid start to the season in.
So like obviously a bit of a surprise there. You're thinking Memorial cup champion. They're going to go through a bit of a adjustment period.
[00:10:30] Speaker A: That's what happens.
[00:10:31] Speaker B: I also looked at the roster. They got a lot of returning players from that team. And when you go all the way to the Memorial cup, that's just like a ton of experience. So any player that returns from that run, they just, they're so much far along in their development, especially in this OHL league.
[00:10:47] Speaker A: You're riding a high.
[00:10:48] Speaker B: Yeah, you're, you're just, you have that experience of going all the way and winning that championship. So you, it's almost like they have that, that extra gear and that extra confidence. Right. So that to know when things get tough, they have that, they have that experience to battle it. Brantford. They just, I have written here they continue to be a wagon.
[00:11:10] Speaker A: Wagon. Like,
[00:11:12] Speaker B: I don't know, like they just, they just always are really, really good. They find these players that, that just seem to fit their system and again they are winning in the Eastern Conference who some might argue is a bit weaker than the west, but still impressive. What they're doing I, I year after year being a top team or a contending team or even in that top four is impressive.
Niagara, the Niagara Ice Dogs. Where are they in the standings there? Dave? They, but they only have, they're pretty high. I think they're top four
[00:11:46] Speaker A: Negro sitting fifth at 7, 5,
[00:11:48] Speaker B: 1. They're fighting for home ice.
They only have one NHL draft pick. And so it's. It's not a team that you normally,
[00:11:56] Speaker A: you know, give shout out.
[00:11:57] Speaker B: Like, they're having a good start to this season as well.
[00:11:59] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:12:00] Speaker B: And, yeah, I.
I think this year
[00:12:04] Speaker A: there's still a team who is. Okay. So you talked about King, Kitchener, Branford and Niagara. And Kingston.
[00:12:10] Speaker B: And Kingston. For surprises.
[00:12:12] Speaker A: For surprises, I'll add a surprise.
There's no bias on the show, but it's. It can't be.
[00:12:19] Speaker B: I was trying to keep them out of this one, but
[00:12:22] Speaker A: there's no way that you can't consider the Suse Marie Greyhounds, everybody as a surprise team.
[00:12:28] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:12:28] Speaker A: There's no chance, like, it doesn't matter. This is a team. People thought middle of the pack, they had a struggling weekend.
I'll put that with a little bit of hand gesture there, but the end of the day, this is a team who's still going to be considered a surprise. And I love how you try to keep them out because we don't talk bias on the show. We're proud of that. But you got to say it.
[00:12:47] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:12:47] Speaker A: It's so true.
[00:12:48] Speaker B: You got to give the boys
[00:12:49] Speaker A: early, but you got to give them props. Now, let's go on the other side.
Disappointed teams. We talked about expectation, like, exceeding expectations. Now let's talk about the teams that are not meeting expectations or just disappointing.
I only got. I got one that I want to put. And I'm sorry if it's. If it's obvious, but Bram.
Mississauga.
Yeah, Brampton might say Mississauga. I'm thinking I'm all over the
[00:13:15] Speaker B: place.
[00:13:16] Speaker A: Yes, Brampton. I said Mississauga. Sorry, Butcher. No,
[00:13:19] Speaker B: no, no. You're
[00:13:20] Speaker A: Brampton.
[00:13:20] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:13:21] Speaker A: All right. Like, I know, and I know it's more of a retooling year. I get it. But, like, 2 and 10, and if you look at the standings as well, you're looking at Barry being at the. At the bottom of the standings. But my second team has to be the Saginaw Spirit. Okay. That's my other team. I feel like that's another surprise team for me as I sit here and say Mississauga, because my mind is just either in the Don Cherry or the that's not even right reference. But
[00:13:46] Speaker B: that franchise has moved quite a few times.
[00:13:48] Speaker A: Quite a few times. Mine is all over. Yeah, but what is Trudeau's disappointing team?
[00:13:53] Speaker B: My disappointing teams are the Peterborough Pete's and the Sarnia Sting.
I know following Pete's updates on Twitter, I was, I was trying to get in contact with that account today just to, I just want to see how those things are going. And I got like locked out of my X account or Twitter account. I don't know. But I know following his, following his like his narration of the team or his like his comments on the team, they've made some organizational moves in the past year and a half or so that just haven't really hit. So they're not playing to their potential. But also they may have been mismanaged in the past that's led to this little drought and they're faced with kind of a like a situation now where they might have to sell off some key pieces to retool for the future.
Some key, key pieces that they were obviously counting on to bring them back to the Easter Conference final and to the OHL Championship and to the Memorial Cup. So that's disappointing for them. And I feel like the Sarnia Sting, you know, this is an organization that has gone through changes in management. They're still adjusting. But when you look at who they have, Alexander Diorio, they brought in J, they brought Jack Van Wolsen, they have, they got the fourth overall pick, Adrian Scro, they have an NHL prospect caliber goaltender and Thatchenko, who was really aggressive when he came to the Sioux.
And I just feel like at some point this organization has to take a next step and thought that maybe this would be the year.
They've been off to a slow start, but I think this year in the OHL is going to be interesting because you've got so many talented players on each team and so many players just figuring out the league.
It could, it could change, it could turn on a dime. So that's why again, like it's hard to predict.
It's hard to predict in the ohl, you know, who's going to finish at the top and at the bottom and if the early standings are indicative of how it's the rest of the year is going to go.
That
[00:16:13] Speaker A: was my next question
[00:16:14] Speaker B: because the buyer and the seller market. But I think this year is going to be even more interesting because you do have. It's a completely different league. The league looks stronger in my opinion. In the past, you know, few games that I've witnessed like even those bottom teams, especially in the west, like the Windsor Spitfires, you know, the Greyhounds are going toe to toe with them. And look at the Greyhounds record versus the Spitfires. So I mean, it just on any given night, any team can be any team. So we're going to see which ones pull away and which ones kind of fall back.
[00:16:48] Speaker A: Well, there should be one team that pulls away. I'm sorry, you know what? I'm from knowing from the coaching realm of junior hockey, not in the Ontario Hockey League, but from the, from the junior tier two, junior level. That when teams are hosting, when teams are expected to win.
[00:17:04] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:17:05] Speaker A: And again, it's different. There's no draft picks. If you're talking the N O J HL in comparison to the OHL and or junior levels like that. But what I find in these, in the, in the junior level leagues is the teams that are expected to win normally mostly do, and the team that stands out to do that, where it's going to be representative, where teams land is Guelph.
[00:17:28] Speaker B: Yes,
[00:17:28] Speaker A: Guelph. There's no way they don't finish first in.
[00:17:32] Speaker B: It would be a very big shock. Very
[00:17:34] Speaker A: big shock. I know it'd be great for Greyhound fans to see that if it was the Greyhounds doing it. But let's be transparent that Guelph should be the team that walks out of the West. But if you want to look at over in the east and I'm pulling up the standings here, Branford be number one. That wasn't on my docket.
[00:17:50] Speaker B: Me neither.
[00:17:51] Speaker A: I feel like, I feel like it's almost fair to say Kings, Kingston, Niagara, Oshawa maybe like. But Oshawa's under 500 right now. So like I can't really even pick a team. When I think of the, when I think of the east, my focus has been the West.
[00:18:08] Speaker B: Give
[00:18:08] Speaker A: me
[00:18:08] Speaker B: a team so
[00:18:10] Speaker A: representative of how it's gonna finish. Who's finishing that?
[00:18:12] Speaker B: I got the Sudbury Wolves.
[00:18:13] Speaker A: Yeah, okay. I
[00:18:14] Speaker B: got the Sudbury Wolves as the biggest threat in the East. Yeah, I know. Guelph is the obvious choice, right? Guelph. The Guelph Storm are the biggest threat in the Western Conference right now and they will be until the end of the playoffs in May and June.
But the Sudbury Wolves in the Eastern Conference, Dave, they got the, they got the lowest goals against.
[00:18:33] Speaker A: Yep.
[00:18:34] Speaker B: They're number one in PK and number two in power play.
[00:18:38] Speaker A: I love those. So
[00:18:39] Speaker B: special teams, really, really key for the Sudbury Wolves. Special teams that these, these Greyhounds have had some struggles in lately.
And just the Wolves showing those, those three key things, giving them an edge up early on and the strong start to the season. Lowest goals against. I think that's more impressive than most goals for
[00:19:02] Speaker A: People don't
[00:19:03] Speaker B: in my opinion
[00:19:04] Speaker A: understand how much like special people do. But those little analytical. Analytical stats about puck possession, ozone time.
[00:19:13] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:19:14] Speaker A: Penalty kill, power play, those are imperative to a team success. And people don't fully maybe appreciate that. That's the term I'm looking for. You always look at the pretty stats, right? The record goals for goals against. And that's. That's one thing I wanted to point out.
Look at the goals for again. So grounds are 48, 4 and 43 against. Right. Now you look at that and you compare it to Flint, who's got 32 goals against, one less goals for. You can say though, oh, is Flint a better defensive team?
Right. You look at the bottom of the standings in the, in the Western Conference, 57 goals against is by Owen Sound. Okay. In the same amount of games and a team if they're weaker, that's not that big of a separation. That's two bad games. Right There's.
[00:20:01] Speaker B: But also I'm looking at too like who is Owen Sound playing? You're playing most year, you're playing most of your games against within your division. So. Oh, it sounds gotta contest with Guelph, London, Kitchener, Erie, who's no slouch this year either on
[00:20:18] Speaker A: almost
[00:20:19] Speaker B: a nightly basis. So that's when those like it's. It just. Everything's kind of like a crapshoot. But I do like these stats. You know, if because PK and power play, they can. I like them because they can change the game in an instant. You know, you. You go on, you have a successful penalty kill. When you guys are. Maybe you're lacking the momentum, you. You have a successful penalty kill that could really jumpstart, you know, your play
[00:20:45] Speaker A: really.
[00:20:45] Speaker B: It gets you back into the game. You, if your power play is running, if your power play's on and you go 2 for 4, 3 for 6 on the power play, that's. You're. You're getting three, two, three goals from being up a man. Like it's just then it just helps your 5 on 5 play.
[00:21:04] Speaker A: It sets momentum.
[00:21:05] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:21:05] Speaker A: And I don't like bringing in NHL talk to Ohl side. But I will say look at The Leafs having 97% penalty kill.
[00:21:12] Speaker B: Right? It's a. It's giving you. You know, there's. There's that confidence piece where we just took a penalty. We're going to kill it off, no problem. You
[00:21:21] Speaker A: know, it doesn't matter what power play. If you have McDavid and literally McDavid and Draisaitl out there, it won't matter.
[00:21:27] Speaker B: Oh, yeah,
[00:21:27] Speaker A: it won't matter. But. So to confirm your biggest threat in the east and the west,
[00:21:33] Speaker B: I got Sudbury in the east right now and the Guelph Storm in the west. Guelph. Obviously
[00:21:40] Speaker A: they're gonna win it all this year. Sorry.
I know. I hope. Like, I'm just saying
[00:21:47] Speaker B: they should win it all. They should win it all.
Stranger things have happened. But you
[00:21:52] Speaker A: know what I'm excited about?
So, Randy Pascal, I'll say it on here. I've been in touch with a lot of local.
Local. Should I say regional.
Regional. That are going to be coming on as guests for the show this month. And as I'm sitting in Bali, those shows will be uploaded for you to enjoy.
Jokes aside, can't wait to debate about Sudbury and the Sioux rivalry. It's been a long time. Sudbury's had a long time coming.
We've had some success here in the Sioux where we've seen a championship final.
Obviously the Morocco's been a while. We know that. But we should consider ourselves lucky in comparison to some other teams.
So definitely going to be fun. Just to dispute Sudbury and North Bay might have dropped another hint there about North Bay, who it is. But nonetheless, there's a lot of going to be some good interaction for you to have here. Right on. Chuck a puck for sure. And you're going to see us at the Hound Games this upcoming week. Okay. Guelph. Sorry.
[00:22:51] Speaker B: Guelph.
[00:22:52] Speaker A: Guelph. Friday, London, Sunday, Saginaw Wednesday, backing up. So Wednesday, Guelph, London and what's on Sunday Quiz.
Arlo's first.
[00:23:02] Speaker B: Oh
[00:23:03] Speaker A: Ohl and hockey game
[00:23:05] Speaker B: and he gets to see the London Knights.
[00:23:07] Speaker A: What a lucky guy.
[00:23:08] Speaker B: What a. What a great first game to go to.
[00:23:10] Speaker A: Great first game. But you'll see Trudeau and myself there. That's how we've had some people reach out to us because they see your beautiful face there. Trs. And I'm like, that's not the guy running the Instagram account. That's not me that. That. That you might have saw. I'm the guy who hides with the media pass and takes a couple of the little pictures while Trude's interacts. Right. I know I look like the interactive one, but Trudes is the one who's interacting on stage.
Yeah. Stop.
[00:23:35] Speaker B: I've had. I've had people stop me and say hi quite a few times and just some, some of the players, parents actually.
[00:23:42] Speaker A: How would you like maybe a greyhounds game, sports podcast merchandise put together? Oh, that would
[00:23:47] Speaker B: be great.
[00:23:49] Speaker A: Just saying. No collaboration with local is very important.
[00:23:55] Speaker B: It was so cool when that, when like that happened. So yeah, stop me and say hi. For sure. We'll be there on. Well, I'll be there all the time. But actually I missed the game. I missed Thursday. I missed Thursday. I had a big. I had a bit of a family dinner. You know,
[00:24:10] Speaker A: my family
[00:24:11] Speaker B: got a important scholarship to Algoma U. So, you know, I was
[00:24:17] Speaker A: gonna make a joke, but I won't make a joke saying, is it easy to get scholarships nowadays? But not
[00:24:21] Speaker B: this
[00:24:21] Speaker A: one. It's a joke.
[00:24:22] Speaker B: Not this one
[00:24:22] Speaker A: joke, everybody.
[00:24:23] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:24:24] Speaker A: this one. Oh, that's Congrats. That's
[00:24:26] Speaker B: awesome. Thank you.
[00:24:27] Speaker A: That's cool.
[00:24:27] Speaker B: Yeah.
[00:24:28] Speaker A: Now, speaking of the Hounds, though, we'll devote a little bit of extra time here to the Hounds before we go to.
Before we go to top chad. We have about 7ish so minutes here to spend on the Hounds before we go into top Chad. Oh, there's a lot of to talk about professional hockey, ladies and gentlemen. I had a cook as a cooking week. I call it toasty, just delicious. Whatever you want to go with. But measuring stick week for The Hounds. Okay.
9, 4 and 1 in 14 games.
Thumbs up, two game losing streak.
Thumbs down.
[00:25:00] Speaker B: Yep.
[00:25:01] Speaker A: Goals for 48. Thumbs up. Goals against 43. I'm going to say it.
Thumbs down. Hot take. Goal differential 5 thumbs down.
Despite recent losses continue. The Hounds continue to exceed expectations.
I have a note.
Two questions. What went wrong?
But what were the positives this past week?
And speaking of measuring stick, this is the second part of it.
How can they bounce back in such a busy, hectic week that's ahead of them three games? Saginaw. By the time he sees Saginaw, the game might have happened.
Guelph Friday, London Sunday.
Trude's what went wrong and the positives they can take away going to this week. And what is the possibility of the positives that to take to bounce back in this measuring stick week I'm calling it, ladies and gentlemen.
[00:26:01] Speaker B: Yeah, I think discipline is a big thing that they've. This team has started well, this team talked about in September and Drew Bannister identified it is that we got to stay out of the box. We got to stay disciplined. This sort of theme is still continuing.
They they're ninth in the league in penalties, which isn't too, too bad. But just for some context, they gave up five power play goals and 12 attempts to the Windsor Spitfires. If so, that's five of Windsor's, I don't know, seven or eight goals. However many they scored against the Hounds this past week in the, in the two back to back games. So that's, that's about half Windsor's goals.
If they don't take those penalties or if they're, if those power play chances aren't happening, the Hounds probably are. They go 20 in those games. Right.
So just that sort of piece, you know, being able to stay disciplined, play hard, play fast, play strong but you know, keep your emotion, try to keep your emotions out of it, stay out of the box. I know La Castro has been suspended for a cross check to the face. I saw the clip. I, I wasn't again. I, I didn't watch this games this weekend. Terrible, terrible guy to have on here. But, but, but I did catch a little bit of Jerry Liscom on the radio, tune into him.
So he's still doing a great job
[00:27:28] Speaker A: with us.
[00:27:28] Speaker B: You know La Castro like I did see the clip. I think he deserves a suspension. You know he cross checked him right in the face whether he meant to or not. You still, this still happened. So you know, Lesson learned there. 16 year old, he's still learning the league. Right. He'll mature and yeah, so that is something that they're going to have to work out and work through and we'll see if this trend continues. Something that this group struggled with kind of with John Dean as well. Yeah, they remember last year. There's
[00:27:56] Speaker A: still some ingredients there from when John Dean was there.
[00:27:59] Speaker B: Yeah. Like maybe they're, you know, I don't know what it, I don't know what it is. Maybe they just get a little too fiery or a little too
[00:28:09] Speaker A: part of the development in junior hockey with young and like now the how to filter your anger in the game is a little bit different now.
[00:28:16] Speaker B: Maybe, I don't know.
[00:28:18] Speaker A: That's what people don't look at and research a lot. You can take away fighting from the game. You can take away that I'm a. Look, I'm not going to get into that topic that's such a hot topic. But I've always, my vision is hockey and fighting. Our fighting is a part of the,
[00:28:32] Speaker B: you know, they up, they upped their fights this year.
[00:28:34] Speaker A: They did.
Yeah.
[00:28:36] Speaker B: It was three fights for the year but now it resets at Christmas. So you, you get six fights. So I don't know,
[00:28:44] Speaker A: I just feel why
[00:28:45] Speaker B: they went backwards. But
[00:28:46] Speaker A: the, if you look at this is a whole other topic that we won't be able to get into. But development with youth hockey now is different hitting, different age.
[00:28:54] Speaker B: There's no hitting anymore,
[00:28:56] Speaker A: right? Yeah. You, you don't, you're not able. The only way that you're able to channel your emotions is through life events, school, life, parent. I don't play many sticks in the yard like in your house or playing road hockey car. And people still do that.
But when you're, when you're in the Ontario Hockey League or playing whl, you're playing and you got young kids who have had a diff. Different development where they're training and they've been the guy for their career and they come and transition. It's a different emotional change and mental change and then you have to adapt to the Ontario Hockey League into the rules and you're going to have guys that are more of the men. Right. You're going to have older guys, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 year olds. They're all playing each other and the older guys are going to just see the young guys and just lick their chops and to be able to eat them up in the corner to get under their skin. They know that and I think that's where you have, if you have a youth focused team, which I'm not saying the Hounds do and I'm not saying the Castro, nothing like that, but it's a part of the development of being a junior hockey player leading to going to professional hockey. Speaking for someone who didn't go above playing the no jhl, okay. But having a lot of friends that have played in the game, in the show and being around the game in that facet of it and from, from this angle, what I've seen each year is the emotional development be different. And that's where I've always been an advocate of hitting being important and learning that in a game and problem solving skills on the ice and those that chaos gotta deal with in front of the net. When even when I was 13 years old, playing, playing novice or playing the under 15 because now it's a different name. You're getting cross checked in the, in the, and you're just, if you're down a goal, you want to antagonize that guy to get set the momentum, get the team going.
And I think you learn things as you develop as a, as a youth in the Ontario Hockey League or in any junior hockey. So I think it does come from the development of when they're younger, but you also learn to contain your emotions as you develop as a hockey player. These are still young kids.
[00:30:57] Speaker B: Yeah.
Well, I'd be interested too to see what the penalties that they're taking what are the most type of penalties that they're taking too, because there's that piece, there's the mental piece, there's development piece and maybe that maturity aspect that you kind of touched on. But I also want to see like, as a, as a coach or, you know, as a somebody who's in management or video coach or like, if you're trying to figure out, okay, what's the deal here? Like, why are we taking so many penalties if it's a stricken, if it's a stick infraction, like a hook or a slasher trip, probably, you probably got beat,
[00:31:32] Speaker A: right?
[00:31:32] Speaker B: So
[00:31:34] Speaker A: track
[00:31:34] Speaker B: that way.
[00:31:34] Speaker A: Yeah.
[00:31:35] Speaker B: As you would know, a plan, like, that's what you do when you get beat or you're not moving your feet. You tend to use your stick to hook or hold or slash. Is it like retaliation? Like, are they taking penalties after the whistle? Are they, like, is it, is it a hitting infraction,
[00:31:51] Speaker A: focusing on the type of infection
[00:31:53] Speaker B: from behind? Like, then you can go into, like, more. Okay, we're. We're going to hit this way. We're going to separate body from puck this way, not using our stick or elbow. Like, so I would be interested in that piece because, like, my brain is very analytical. Of course,
[00:32:09] Speaker A: if it's a
[00:32:10] Speaker B: mix of everything, then you're kind of like, well, oh, I guess we just got to kind of touch on all of these pieces. But I mean, and that's something that I feel like maybe Drew Bannister's touched on having. He's
[00:32:23] Speaker A: such a good
[00:32:24] Speaker B: coach. Well, and he was the coach when I, when I did my internship for them there.
And I just, I think he just kind of lives and breathes the game and he's so knowledgeable that that might be a piece that he's looking at.
Anyway, positives for the greyhounds, we talked about the, the penalties, the disciplinary negatives being a little hard on them. Let's give them a little bit of props.
They're battling back. When they're down,
[00:32:51] Speaker A: you
[00:32:51] Speaker B: know, they're down three nothing against Windsor. They battle back.
[00:32:54] Speaker A: Yeah, they end up losing that
[00:32:56] Speaker B: game and heartbreaking, but, you know, they battle back and they're 40 deficit against Branford the past Sunday and you know, they outshoot them 20 to 3 in the third period and they're. They battle it back to 4, 2 they lose. But, you know, that type of character is just so telling.
Or that type of result is so telling of their character. Right. They got good leaders.
They're confident in their systems. It speaks to their structure. And just being able to, you know, just bear down and say, yeah, it's not going our way right now, but, you know, let's lean on our sticks a little bit and just trust ourselves and you know, we're never out of a game. Just know that you're never out of a game. And that's, that's huge for them.
[00:33:38] Speaker A: And I realize that more nowadays is when teams are out. It's never over.
[00:33:43] Speaker B: It's never over. I've
[00:33:44] Speaker A: learned that as a leaf fan that it's never over. But it's not just a leaf thing now.
It's a, it's a. Yeah, it's. Yeah, it's a. It's just a known thing in, in general. So look, so obviously the way that, the way that I look at it, the question that I, I would say is, do you generally think and expect the greyhounds to be competitive and maintain this pace throughout the course of an entirety of a season?
[00:34:13] Speaker B: So you wanted to see if they're going to maintain this pace, I think
[00:34:17] Speaker A: from what you saw this past weekend.
[00:34:20] Speaker B: Well, I think.
[00:34:20] Speaker A: Right. So hold on, you know what, let me rephrase.
We're going to go back to that for a second. What are the keys for them to be. You said obviously the discipline and stay out of the box is the key for this weekend.
Is goaltending a big piece because of who you're playing against?
[00:34:35] Speaker B: Up a good piece that I was going to touch on.
[00:34:37] Speaker A: Okay, let's go there first and then we'll go to that question before we wrap up. Chuckle
[00:34:41] Speaker B: okay, so David Vermeerovsky has earned the starters job for this team.
I'm going to come out and say it.
He's. The performance he's putting on is.
He's. It's warranted and we've seen him get a little bit more.
He's. He's gotten the most starts out of the three goalies.
So I, in my.
I think he's gonna be the, the guy against Guelph, you know.
[00:35:09] Speaker A: Oh, you're gonna go with
[00:35:10] Speaker B: him? I'm gonna go
[00:35:10] Speaker A: with him against
[00:35:11] Speaker B: Guelph. I'm gonna go with him against Guelph and London this weekend and give whoever Saginaw I would like to see Will Computero get another shot. I think he looked great in the, in the performances that I've seen him. I wish he'd had. He'd had more of an opportunity up to this point and so I hope he gets to saginaw game but I think you got to go with your best And David Vermirofsky's showing
[00:35:40] Speaker A: the hot hand that is your best right now.
[00:35:43] Speaker B: And so with the break in between Friday, I'm going with him back to back on the Friday and Sunday.
And then I think, you know what, that's all I'm going to comment on there. They did pick up a waiver wire, an Oliver Turner. I don't know if you saw that 19 year old defenseman. I did mention earlier on in. In the year that that's a move I would like to see the greyhounds make. I do. Like it's in how it's a 19 year old as well.
I mentioned an overager. But that 19 year old, that just gives you an extra year and it doesn't take up an overager spot. So he gets to come in and fill a depth role.
Veteran guy, 19, you know, been there, done that. And just help this young defense corps in case another injury plagues them again.
But the Greyhounds, I think this next week is going to be critical in seeing whether or not they can maintain this pace of play, whether or not they're gonna shift from a good team to a great team. Because, you know, we're seeing injuries kind of pop up. I think Ryan Kaczynski is a huge loss to this lineup. He's been out week to week with an upper body injury and he was a big part of that top six. You know, that's helped them be so successful this season so far. So I think that's a big loss. They've had to juggle lines around a bit and I assume guys at this point they're getting a little tired. They're. They're probably playing through some injuries, they're in pain, and now they got to go up against two of the top two teams, I would argue in the chl, let alone the ohl. And Saginaw is no slouch either. You can't even.
You can't even look past Saginaw Wednesday because they got a winning record. You know, they got two of the top scorers in the league, Dima Zilkin, Brady Waslan, and you just.
It's going to be telling. We're going to see they got some adversity going right now.
Um, so let. Let's see how this is going to be a great measuring stick for this team. Um, but have they exceeded expectations? Absolutely. Like, come on. I was. I wasn't surprised at the success.
I was. They're not. They're better than I thought they were going to be for sure. But with Drew Bannister coming back and the two named assistant coaches that we got. And looking at the deep roster, Trevor Daly Jr. Joining the roster, the Czech goalie, David Vermorovski joining the roster.
Like you just, you knew it wasn't going to be a 9th, 10th finish.
[00:38:07] Speaker A: No, true.
[00:38:08] Speaker B: You know, there's talent there, there's skill there, and they're getting help from all ends of the lineup. You know, from first line to the fourth line.
All three defense pairings are doing their job. And I think it's going to be an interesting week, that's for sure.
[00:38:26] Speaker A: So here's the last burning question.
Nice and early.
Are the Sue Greyhounds a legitimate contender in the Western Conference?
I say yes.
[00:38:37] Speaker B: I think they got a little bit of work to do.
But this is where those leaders like Travis Hayes, Colin Fitzgerald, Jordan Sharon Callum, Crosby, Quinn McKenzie, this is where they become critical pieces, right, because they're the ones that, and especially a guy like Travis Hayes, like he went, he went down to game seven to the wire with that Saginaw spirit, Memorial cup team a couple years ago.
And Christopher Brown too was there, right? So you know, these guys, these Veteran guys, these 19 year olds are an 18 year olds that have been there.
They're gonna have to carry this team forward and I think they can do that. I think Travis Hayes has had a, he's had a monster here so far.
[00:39:28] Speaker A: Yep, like,
[00:39:30] Speaker B: so impressive.
He's like a dog on the bone, no pun intended. And he just finally getting that success.
I felt like he's like the, the unluckiest junior player I've ever seen. Like you, if you watch him, he's got a wicked shot. But he just, over the past two years, it just seemed like he'd hit a post, he did another post, the goalie would make a TSN save on him. Like he, it just like nothing to do with his play or anything. Like he was, he's always, he's always going to go get the puck for you and set you up, get to the dirty areas. But he just seemed like he didn't have that luck. Looks like he's starting to produce and the captaincy is he was the perfect choice.
[00:40:11] Speaker A: Yep, it was an easy choice.
[00:40:13] Speaker B: Really, really impressive start to the season for Travis Hayes. So I think, yeah, it's going to be about those guys and just, you know, keeping the D, the defense, just staying solid in front of, in front of the goalies.
[00:40:26] Speaker A: Love that. Jordan Trudeau, ladies and gentlemen. The man, the myth, the legend. Chuck a puck. We chucked it Let me tell you.
[00:40:34] Speaker B: Did we hit the center ice? I think we did.
[00:40:35] Speaker A: I think we nailed it. Let us know if you think we nailed it. I think we did. Because now guess what? We're going to shift.
This is different territory for Jordan Trudeau. This is different territory.
[00:40:46] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:40:46] Speaker A: but you know, you're. You obviously. No, but you obviously.
[00:40:51] Speaker B: I like to watch jumping
[00:40:52] Speaker A: in in place of Justin Heiko, Alex Parr, Dan Hancho and Brandon McCarthy today. All four of those guys have different reasons that they're not here today. And just to share to everybody, Jordan Trudeau is a Vancouver Canucks fan.
Everybody just sharing.
[00:41:08] Speaker B: Is it June yet where we can get Landon dupo after Gavin McKenna is unfairly ripped from our hands.
[00:41:17] Speaker A: Fun story about Gavin McKenna. I was pre recording strike zone when the Jays were just in there just getting hot. They were getting hot. That's where the Jays, they like this is before Canada Day kind of rode off the Jays. I was like, I told Connor, I said, it's too good of a team. Let's make it another baseball prediction. I might shift some not encouraging sports betting, but if I. My betting might go towards baseball going forward. But jokes aside, Gavin McKenna. The ball, the, the 12 ball drops.
And I saw it on my phone.
My little one is in the bath with my mom because she was helping us take care of the kid because I was recording and. And Hannah and I were going out after and I screamed like you wouldn't. It's like Toronto won the Stanley Cup. My poor son was crying because dad's screaming.
But you know what? Gavin McKenna and Connor on the other end, because I paused, it goes. Are you kidding?
And we said, what just happened? I said, I'll tell you what happened. Gavin McKenna is going to be a leaf is what that means right now. And I felt so bad because if you listen to a previous edition of the show, a TikTok on the show, it's still there. I didn't delete it on purpose. People could check it out.
What's Gavin McKenna's best fit? Was my clip.
[00:42:37] Speaker B: Was it Vancouver?
[00:42:39] Speaker A: Vancouver Canucks. It was the Vancouver Canucks. I thought that that would be the destiny calling for Vancouver.
But you know what?
[00:42:49] Speaker B: They got a good one.
[00:42:50] Speaker A: They did.
[00:42:51] Speaker B: Caleb Malhotra, he's. He's,
[00:42:53] Speaker A: yeah.
[00:42:53] Speaker B: Tearing up bu. Yes. In college. Yeah,
[00:42:55] Speaker A: he's good. And obviously
[00:42:57] Speaker B: his dad's the coach. So once once they announced that it was kind of like, well,
[00:43:01] Speaker A: if we know exactly
[00:43:02] Speaker B: if they get anything under
[00:43:04] Speaker A: yeah,
[00:43:05] Speaker B: top two, they're going to take, take Caleb, obviously
[00:43:07] Speaker A: 100% and guy who can play center, big guy. His dad was a legend. Right? So, you know, and at the end of the day,
[00:43:15] Speaker B: trust the sad. We trust in the sad. You
[00:43:18] Speaker A: should. We trust in Daniel Alfredson and Matt Sundin going
[00:43:22] Speaker B: to the.
[00:43:22] Speaker A: I'm saying that in the same sentence.
Matt Sundin and Danny Alfredson in the same sentence on the.
[00:43:29] Speaker B: Can't believe it.
I can't believe Alfredson went to the Leafs, but I guess him and Sundin are
[00:43:37] Speaker A: buddies.
[00:43:37] Speaker B: Yeah, of course.
[00:43:38] Speaker A: Who's next?
Eric Carlson?
Just hold that. Hold that in your thought, folks. Hold that up here.
Let it sit down. Let it sit down. Let it land. Let that plane land.
Another legend,
[00:43:53] Speaker B: another dubious move.
[00:43:55] Speaker A: Segments Here is Top Chad, formerly Top Shelf, formerly the hockey segment. Formerly the hockey segment. North Spirit Brewing Company, formerly top shelf in the North Spirit Brewing Company for formerly top shelf, appear 55 North Spear Brewing Company just telling us the history. Formerly Top Shelf at Boston Pizza.
[00:44:16] Speaker B: There's going to be a quiz on this.
[00:44:17] Speaker A: And formally top shelf at SportsCenter Bar Grill. And also formerly top shelf on ESPN 1400. Just so everybody knows the history of this show. In the pocket. Still the longest segment by one season. Fun fact. We did football for an additional season before hockey because I did hockey on radio instead of podcasting. Fun fact for you. But we got a doozy of a show today for you and we got approximately 20 minutes or so to do it. So let's do it. Just under half. Just around that area to do it. So let's dive right into it.
There was a lot of boo birds this week.
Last couple weeks, Kachak just getting booty scored. But guess what? The Sands got the best of the Panthers in that game. Loved it. I have a mad respect for for Ottawa fans now. Okay, coming from a Leaf fan. Quinn Hughes played in Vancouver the other night, gets a goal on the power play. I didn't know that's going to happen. He gets a tribute video. And they did clap.
[00:45:13] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:45:14] Speaker A: sort of. But he got booed when he came on the ice. He got booed. It's like Vancouver fans are trying to live it up because Brady was a sour way out. Quinn was kind of like Cam not resigning or I. And Vancouver's like, we're just gonna maximize the offer and trade you. It wasn't really public and we're gonna talk about Connor Halibuk in a little bit. Cause that's gonna be a doozy of a situation when that happens.
But booing Quinn Hughes and Brady could Chuck, what is the driving frustration among Canadian hockey Fans. Trudeau, what do you think?
[00:45:47] Speaker B: Well, I don't know. Like, is it the Olympics?
I feel like.
[00:45:51] Speaker A: Do you think the Olympics has a. Has a play on it, or do you think it's because they requested a trade from their team?
[00:45:58] Speaker B: Do
[00:45:58] Speaker A: you think the American teams would do that, too if it was the other way around?
[00:46:00] Speaker B: 100%.
[00:46:02] Speaker A: Right.
[00:46:02] Speaker B: I feel like.
[00:46:03] Speaker A: Or do they care as much? Sorry.
The American fan base. You're not like, Canada. I just hit my
[00:46:07] Speaker B: mic.
[00:46:09] Speaker A: I'm so passionate about this. You're not as passionate as we are in a most respectfully way. I mean, that. That's hot. Because people are gonna dislike that topic and that comment. But it's Canada's game. Despite you on the Olympics, Canada's a different passion.
[00:46:23] Speaker B: That's what they're gonna hit you with.
[00:46:25] Speaker A: Yeah, 100%
[00:46:26] Speaker B: and. Well, it's not your game anymore. Now we have. We won the big one and whatever. Which is fair. Like, you watch that hockey game back over, and
[00:46:35] Speaker A: Connor Halbach won that game,
[00:46:37] Speaker B: but it was.
It was an amazing hockey game.
[00:46:40] Speaker A: It was so good.
[00:46:40] Speaker B: It was probably the best hockey game I've ever watched,
[00:46:43] Speaker A: other
[00:46:43] Speaker B: than other Salt
[00:46:44] Speaker A: Lake nation, too.
[00:46:46] Speaker B: I think these two countries are. Are so close now, and it just.
I. To be fair, I think Canada could have went either way and.
[00:46:56] Speaker A: Yeah, it could have went either way of Connor. I
[00:46:58] Speaker B: feel like it could have
[00:46:59] Speaker A: let a goal in once in a while
[00:47:01] Speaker B: or if Canada decided, you know,
[00:47:03] Speaker A: Crosby should play
[00:47:05] Speaker B: Schaefer and Evan Bouchard.
[00:47:06] Speaker A: Oh, don't even.
[00:47:08] Speaker B: Okay. Yeah, we
[00:47:09] Speaker A: don't want to get.
[00:47:10] Speaker B: We don't want to get to that. We
[00:47:11] Speaker A: just want to talk
[00:47:12] Speaker B: about booing. I don't think it's. I think any. I don't think it has anything to do with nationality. I think. So
[00:47:19] Speaker A: it's not national rivalry, is it? Literally player loyalty, then.
[00:47:24] Speaker B: Yeah, These guys, you know, whether. What. What. Whatever it is, it's I want to leave because I'm not happy or the worst is I want to leave because.
Because the. Or I don't like the organization. The organization's going downhill. And, like, so it's like, you don't want to be a part of the solution. You just want to. You just want to run away, which is fine. But I think anytime you're cheering for a team that you're passionate about and the top player, the captain, they were both were captains, express that they want out, and they make that public, and then they go out and it happens, and I think there's always going to be that sour Taste in your mouth because. But even look at the Blue Jays, Boba Shet. Like, look at that. Like, look at that return.
And he got cheered for.
[00:48:24] Speaker A: He just walked.
Yeah.
[00:48:27] Speaker B: Different sport, different situation. But it's. It was. It's such a weird coincidence that they're all American and coincidentally after they won gold, now they won out.
[00:48:39] Speaker A: They're on Canadian teams,
[00:48:41] Speaker B: I guess that is. But look at a guy like Kyle Conner, who's staying.
Lane, Hudson, Cole, Caulfield. They're both staying.
So Auston Matthews.
[00:48:50] Speaker A: That's another.
That's another point that I have.
Does happy,
[00:48:55] Speaker B: though.
[00:48:56] Speaker A: Yeah, that will go back to Matthews in a sec. The one thing that I'll say is, should players expect this treatment when visiting opposing arenas, then if they request a trade equally throughout the league or is this a part of the Canadian market where you're just booing them because they are American players or outside of Canada? But I'll tell you this, I'll answer that question for you. I had that question come to me through Instagram.
You're wrong.
I was at the Vegas Leaf game last year and at Mitch Marner's return to the Scotiabank arena and he got booed every time he touched that
[00:49:33] Speaker B: puck. Oh, yeah, I remember
[00:49:34] Speaker A: that game. I watched that
[00:49:35] Speaker B: game. And he's Canadian.
[00:49:36] Speaker A: And he's Canadian and he got cheered after half cheer, half boo. But then everyone started cheering as tribute. It's like Leaf fans just gave him something to upset him.
But what thing the Leaf fans were upset about him was he didn't wave his no trade clause to get trade to Carolina and a trade to get Mo Ran in.
But think of it this way, fans. If we didn't, if we got Mo Ran in, we have Corel Marchenko right now.
Think of different things. Think of different things that happen.
We'll get to know movement Clauses in a second, as we've talked about on the show. But Mitch Marner got booed. So my answer to this question is that every player that does request a trade or does something with the team that leaves a sour taste, they will get boo because that's now the flavor. But Brady Tkachuk conveniently said, I can't wait to stay here. I can't wait to have Ottawa the next week. Basically he gets traded, but to whom?
[00:50:35] Speaker B: Well,
[00:50:36] Speaker A: the Florida Panthers with his brother. Are you telling me that that wasn't rigged or planned?
There's my swear.
[00:50:43] Speaker B: But
[00:50:44] Speaker A: any other team wanted me. Colorado wanted Brady Kachaka or something? Come on.
[00:50:48] Speaker B: I don't know.
[00:50:48] Speaker A: You went somewhere on Purpose where? When I look at Quinn Hughes, I don't. I mean, Minnesota was on his radar, I'm sure, but you don't think New Jersey was number one on his radar? Come on.
[00:50:59] Speaker B: Well, there was definitely a market for Quinn.
Like, there were definitely teams in the bidding. And like, I remember reading that. But while. But Dave, you got to remember too, it's. It's not even just a player requesting a trade. It's a star player requesting a trade. Do people care when a third or fourth liner requests a trade? If they ever do?
Is it the same treatment or is it the same reaction? I mean, maybe, but like, that's the type of thing that I want to think of too.
And you know, I just. Maybe you don't see it. Maybe you do. We'll see what happens with Dylan Larkin. I mean, isn't. Doesn't he want out of Detroit? And there's an American born player
[00:51:44] Speaker A: and there's Larkin. That's my point about Larkin. He had a list, but now his list expanded. Now his list expanded again. This is Dylan Larkin's and the whole situation, as per Jeff o'. Neill. I'll say. I'll take it right from Jeff o'. Neill.
It's embarrassing how this list is getting.
He just wants out of Detroit. The guy got booed in his home opener because he doesn't want to be there. Got the C ripped off his shirt.
Jersey.
Look at me.
[00:52:08] Speaker B: Sweater.
[00:52:09] Speaker A: Sweater. Look at me. But.
And he hasn't moved yet.
Why is it horof?
Is it because nobody wants to? Or they're lowballing Detroit.
Look at Connor Hollabuk. We're going to go there in a sec. I'm going to try to stay on point.
Brady Tkachuk booed. Warranted. Love it. Quinn Hughes booed. Cheered at his ovation, but he gets a little bit of a boo. Not like, don't get me wrong, warranted. He said he wasn't going to sign there. Go. Was going to resign.
Goes to Minnesota. Get value for nothing. That is what you do. You get value for something on someone who's going to leave.
Now you look at obviously Conor Hellebuk again, I'll pause and go back.
[00:52:53] Speaker B: He's gonna get booed.
[00:52:54] Speaker A: He's gonna get so booed. It might be worse than Brady Tkachuk. I know that Winnipeg community just from a previous employer, and let me tell you, they're very passionate about their jets. Even though people chirp some of their, their tenants. Their fan involvement's great. But Dylan Larkin, still sitting on Detroit Wondering what?
Hello. He's like the John Travolta meme.
He's like caught a hell of bucks on a plane. Brady could shotgun on a plane of coincidentally to go to his brother's team. Too brutal. Quinn Hughes got on the plane last year and Dylan Larkin is like what about me?
I want to go and credit to Detroit. I ain't moving you until we get what we want. You keep expanding that list.
[00:53:35] Speaker B: Same with the Jets.
[00:53:36] Speaker A: Keep expanding that list. Maybe expand it to 29 teams. You might send you off to Columbus.
[00:53:41] Speaker B: Yeah,
[00:53:41] Speaker A: okay. No offense to Columbus. Rough time there in Columbus. I shouldn't put down Columbus fans right now.
[00:53:47] Speaker B: We'll see with the jets too, right? Like holding on to Hellbuck. But also what's I, I gotta bring it up too. What's worse?
Keeping the star or the star or like a Tkachuk or a Hughes or a Hellbuck staying unhappy or just kind of ripping off the band aid
[00:54:06] Speaker A: ripping off the bandaid
[00:54:07] Speaker B: like which is worse.
[00:54:08] Speaker A: Ripping off the band aid but doing it in a way that doesn't does, I
[00:54:12] Speaker B: guess in
[00:54:12] Speaker A: the way that
[00:54:13] Speaker B: they.
[00:54:13] Speaker A: Oh Brady, you want to go to Florida?
[00:54:15] Speaker B: Guess
[00:54:16] Speaker A: what? You ain't going to Florida. Their division rival and just cuz your brother plays there. You got two options. One, expand that list or you're going to stay in Ottawa and you're going to sit in the press box if you don't want to play. That's me as the gm.
No offense to Ottawa, but that's not how I would have played. Didn't
[00:54:33] Speaker B: they get like quite a bit for him though?
[00:54:35] Speaker A: Got a good haul. But you don't think you would have gotten a haul somewhere else. That's where I, I look at it.
[00:54:39] Speaker B: Probably not that,
[00:54:40] Speaker A: not that good.
[00:54:40] Speaker B: I wouldn't. But
[00:54:41] Speaker A: with this does you, does the hockey between Canada and U. S rivalry and intensify even further beyond what the gold medal game was in Italy just last year?
Earlier this year, I guess.
[00:54:54] Speaker B: Well, I think it's always been, I think it's always
[00:54:58] Speaker A: bigger now because rivalry, us. I want to
[00:55:00] Speaker B: say, I, I, I want to say this and I don't want it like I think now that the US Is actually like comparable, if not better than Canada at hockey. The rivalry has intensified.
[00:55:18] Speaker A: Fair.
[00:55:20] Speaker B: I don't
[00:55:21] Speaker A: think they're better.
[00:55:22] Speaker B: I don't think they're better. I think I have some mixed opinions on it. And like when you talk about like world juniors and stuff like let's be honest here, like Macklin Celebrini could have played at the World Juniors last year. Like, let's not kid ourselves here. Right? So, like, the World Juniors are always.
[00:55:40] Speaker A: Could have. Connor Bedard, too, before.
[00:55:43] Speaker B: No, but
[00:55:44] Speaker A: year before, that's the
[00:55:45] Speaker B: type of thing that.
[00:55:46] Speaker A: Yeah,
[00:55:47] Speaker B: like, Matthew
[00:55:48] Speaker A: Schaefer
[00:55:49] Speaker B: could have played at the. Could have played
[00:55:51] Speaker A: at the World Juniors
[00:55:52] Speaker B: last, like, last year. Like, you know, let's not. He could play this year. Can he?
[00:55:57] Speaker A: Is
[00:55:58] Speaker B: he only 19?
So, like, you know, when people are like, duh. Canada World Juniors, you know, they're. They're haven't been very good. It's like, well, don't kid yourself. Like, these are the types of players that Canada's missing at that tournament. But, I mean, the Olympics was interesting.
Like, hockey Canada seems to put value in players like a Drew Doughty or a Mark Stone or. Granted, had a great tournament. This is. Look at what this has turned into. Had a great tournament, I thought.
But, like, I just remember saying to Connor, like, I can't wait till Canada is in the gold medal game and they're, like, out shooting the US by. I literally said this. Out shooting the US by, like, 20 shots and the game is tied. And we're like, oh, man, I just wish Canada had somebody that could put the puck in the net.
[00:56:53] Speaker A: Oh,
[00:56:54] Speaker B: Q. Evan Bouchard, Matthew Schaefer, Connor Bertard, all just sitting on the couch
[00:56:59] Speaker A: at home.
Sidney Crosby being injured. Sorry,
[00:57:02] Speaker B: that was a big loss. But type of thing. Oh,
[00:57:05] Speaker A: goodness.
[00:57:06] Speaker B: That's the type of thing that blows my mind. But, I mean,
[00:57:10] Speaker A: Rocco Gudis.
That's all I got to say. Rocco Gutas.
So,
[00:57:15] Speaker B: yeah,
[00:57:15] Speaker A: booze, Booing. I
[00:57:16] Speaker B: think
[00:57:17] Speaker A: players. Yeah. No, booing players is fair game. Yes,
[00:57:20] Speaker B: Absolutely.
[00:57:21] Speaker A: Are fans taking international hockey rivalries too far? No.
[00:57:24] Speaker B: No. Would
[00:57:25] Speaker A: you believe former favorite player? Heck, yeah.
And last thing, does Austin Matthews. This is.
Does Austin Matthews follow suit to Brady
[00:57:39] Speaker B: Deal? He's a. He's a W guy.
[00:57:42] Speaker A: The. The chemistry in the room, apparently, this year is off the charts. He's loving it. He's having fun. He's happy. Pappy's back. Pappy's happy.
Pappy's happy. Okay. And I'll tell you, if Conor Mc Jesus doesn't hit the open market, the leaves are going to be kissing Austin Matthews toes to stay there. Or you try to get both and you give them twenties at the start of their contract, just bankrupt your entire team, because that's what Toronto does. But that aside, does Matthews follow suit?
I'll say if the Leafs do not show, promise he won't resign in July. It's going to be dragged Out.
We all know this. It's going to be dragged out.
He won't resign until the end of next year if. Depending on what the Leafs do. But I'll say one thing that I think Matthews will do.
He will waive his trade clause to certain places so the Leafs can trade them at the deadline to get value if they're a team that's not in the mix. But it's hard to see that this team won't be in the mix now. Watching what they're doing this year, the excitement that they're doing.
Matthews, if they go far, not win a cup, I think this team, you know, hopefully they win the cup sometime in my lifetime.
But Matthews, if this team gets past the second round, Matthew stays.
Key thing. Matthew stays.
Trudes.
I think success pending is my answer.
[00:59:19] Speaker B: Yeah, I. That would be mine too.
But like, as Matthews, you gotta respect what Sundin Cheka and the. The boys in the front office have done for you. Like, they have taken this roster and they have just flipped it on it's. And even as a Leaf fan, I would be like, I, I could be honest, I. I enjoy all the Canadian teams. I, I cheer for all them and I know that's wrong, but like, I'm not really an. I'm not really an NHL guy. Like, to be honest, I'm. I'm like, I'm primarily follow the Greyhounds, but like, I just like watching the NHL. I like watching hockey in general and it's the best league in the world, so.
And it's, it's getting better and better each year and it's amazing how the player, like how good the players are now, like, it's, it's just outstanding. But I think if you're Auston Matthews, you got to respect that what the front office is doing for you and Nylander and Tavare, like that core that's. That's gotta go a ways in him staying Now Gavin McKenna is there. That. That's got to play a part in his. Like, there's probably a bit of a new. I can't imagine, you know, I gotta kind of respect him because he's really stuck with the Leafs and, And like for everything they granted. I don't think think that Toronto media has thrown the book at him as much as they have at guys like, like Marner and other guys that they've chased out of town. But still though, like, he's still there, he's still working, he's still.
Not once has he ever said, you know, I, I want to leave, I Want I I hate it here. What like or implied that so got to have a little bit of respect for him.
But again I think it's going to come down to like whether or not him and Nylander can can produce in the playoffs. But the thing with the Leafs is they look faster this year.
They have that speed piece fast and the players they brought in right that PK that we talked about.
[01:01:22] Speaker A: Teddy Bluegar, Zach McEwen. These guys that just bleed. Yeah for that puck.
[01:01:27] Speaker B: Like like huge hard work guys.
Their fourth line's really effective. And they also like Marchenko McKenna. Like those are fat. Like those are fast moving bodies out there
[01:01:39] Speaker A: score goals.
[01:01:40] Speaker B: You
[01:01:40] Speaker A: know what's sad? It's too bad Max Domi isn't on that roster. I'm a Max fan. I think not just from a third line pest side. I feel like he would be perfect
[01:01:50] Speaker B: that goal he scored in overtime. It's
[01:01:53] Speaker A: Ottawa
[01:01:54] Speaker B: against Ottawa. Was was a pretty sweet one.
[01:01:56] Speaker A: It might not play might not play again. I
[01:01:58] Speaker B: know
[01:01:58] Speaker A: unfortunately. Poor guy.
[01:01:59] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:02:01] Speaker A: So Connor Hallebuck this transition so we think Austin Matthews is pending team success. Let us know what you think of that below. This is Dave McKag and Jordan Trudeau. I haven't reminded you who we were for the last 35. No
[01:02:13] Speaker B: we're just sitting here talking
[01:02:14] Speaker A: and Game Sports Podcast a Studio 726 original series. Follow us on Tick Tock, Instagram, Facebook all at the game Sports podcast. Make sure you're following subscribing on YouTube.
[01:02:24] Speaker B: I feel like I'm
[01:02:25] Speaker A: make sure you're doing that
[01:02:26] Speaker B: sinking into the chair
[01:02:28] Speaker A: Connor Hallebuck
[01:02:29] Speaker B: Helly
[01:02:30] Speaker A: gets dealt I like Dawson Mercier Ustad Alexander commands rights a couple picks going back the other way a trade that was
[01:02:40] Speaker B: yeah
[01:02:40] Speaker A: not I thought New Jersey was in the top maybe if I would have chosen maybe in a top five but I thought Carolina I thought the Buffalo Sabres
[01:02:50] Speaker B: well there's
[01:02:51] Speaker A: San Jose Sharks with with Askarovkan and going over to Buffalo.
[01:02:57] Speaker B: Yeah
[01:02:57] Speaker A: from Buffalo to Winnipeg. That was another one if you look at you know Kurchikov or Bussey from Carolina and picks and Nikishkin would have could have been one going over to Winnipeg
[01:03:07] Speaker B: Carolina's goalie now starter
[01:03:10] Speaker A: but Brennan Bus will
[01:03:11] Speaker B: they cool
[01:03:12] Speaker A: move around but it's you know obviously Stanley cup winner last year so yeah
[01:03:16] Speaker B: interest interesting they wouldn't make more of a put or maybe they did but interesting that
[01:03:20] Speaker A: won a cup with Bussy right Especially
[01:03:22] Speaker B: yeah especially if like they were offering Bussy or like you said if Buffalo was offering
[01:03:27] Speaker A: was the other young Guy going the other way and Nikishkin and maybe a player and a pick.
[01:03:32] Speaker B: Interesting.
[01:03:32] Speaker A: I thought Carolina be a bit more. More aggressive on Hollaback. Same with Buffalo. Same with Buffalo, man. Like. Like you Lucanin. You lost Levi Luka Lucanin hasn't been the guy that maybe people thought he would be when he was in Sudbury.
Right. But still good goalie. You also have some good talent there. Some young guys you can trade. Maybe if it's a Jack Quinn or if it was a first pick. You're not Owen Power. You. I love Owen Power. He's one of. One of my favorite.
[01:04:01] Speaker B: Buffalo's really big
[01:04:02] Speaker A: defensive
[01:04:03] Speaker B: for themselves a this.
[01:04:04] Speaker A: Yeah. But you get Hollabuck on that team.
[01:04:06] Speaker B: Yeah.
[01:04:07] Speaker A: You in a very competitive division. That puts them over the top.
So you got those two teams in San Jose. Askarov would have been perfect. They also have Ravensburgen as well. A good young goaltender there. So there could have been another move that you could have did you have Dickinson. They have so many me like they have guys there that I
[01:04:27] Speaker B: wonder if the jets just really liked Mercer, you know. Yeah. And maybe they thought he was going to be a good fit for their system
[01:04:36] Speaker A: or I wonder that too. Or teams just pulled out
[01:04:39] Speaker B: or that.
You know,
[01:04:41] Speaker A: you look at that. I think the jets won this deal though, no matter what. I think
[01:04:46] Speaker B: it's good for both teams.
[01:04:47] Speaker A: I. I do think it's good. But the edge to the. To the Jets. I think Mercier is going to be a great Jet. It's going to work out.
The Alexander command prospect is actually just kind of a underlying prospect that will be a good fit to that lineup. But Nico Dawes getting the chance to play in Winnipeg where there's less pressure and he has Stu Skinner there. Maybe a goalie that can kind of who's been in the NHL and the NHL who's put up good numbers in the Ontario in the American Hockey League. Sorry. And he also played junior. Believe he played Storm. I believe. Well, Storm was the right team. And he played for Canada and the World Juniors. Yes,
[01:05:22] Speaker B: he did. Yeah.
[01:05:23] Speaker A: So there's a goalie that can maybe just waiting for that big guy. Yeah. Get his chance. Right.
So you also just want to get rid of this distraction that's in that Winnipeg locker room that has been happening.
[01:05:33] Speaker B: Y.
[01:05:34] Speaker A: And with. With Adam Lowry's comment saying he has some explaining to do when he comes into that locker room. I mean there was the tone right there. Okay. There's the. What's that? The straw that broke the camel's back. I Think that is what put Kevin Cheval day off to that point where he's like, I gotta make a trade. Right. But I hope for Winnipeg's sake it wasn't trade to make a trade. But I like their return. They got. I think Winnipeg won this trade. I really do. Because of who they got. Mercy, I'm a big fan. He's got wheels. He can put the puck in the net. But you also get rid of a distraction on that team that's been a black cloud over that team for the last few months. Yeah. And if you don't want to be here. Yeah. If you don't want to be here, get the hell out of here.
[01:06:14] Speaker B: Yeah. And I think I saw a video of Adam Fantilli getting.
Did you see that?
[01:06:20] Speaker A: Yeah. I love that. And then he gets rocked, though. He rocks someone. Whatever. He actually hit Marchenko, actually. Yeah. Sorry. But at least won that game by a landslide. So
[01:06:30] Speaker B: like this type of stuff is like
[01:06:33] Speaker A: what
[01:06:33] Speaker B: happened while he just said in the interview. He was like. I think they asked him. And part of it's the media. Right? Like the media, like they're
[01:06:42] Speaker A: always. What happened in that room is what I mean. I know what happened.
[01:06:45] Speaker B: Oh, like in the room.
[01:06:46] Speaker A: Yeah, that. In the room. What happened. Look at Matthew. Nice guy. Was traded. Three different GMs wanted to trade him.
Three different GMs wanted to Trade Matthew.
[01:06:57] Speaker B: There was a package for him to go to Montreal.
[01:06:59] Speaker A: Montreal
[01:07:00] Speaker B: for.
[01:07:01] Speaker A: For.
Not. Not. Sorry. Noti. Sorry.
[01:07:05] Speaker B: Sski.
[01:07:07] Speaker A: Yeah. Yeah. And so
[01:07:09] Speaker B: interest. Yeah.
[01:07:09] Speaker A: Right. Like two for sure. Confirmed GMs. A third. If you want to consider Dubas in there. Wanted to trade in Matthew Knight.
[01:07:17] Speaker B: His health.
[01:07:18] Speaker A: His health. He's had shoulder, concussion.
If you look want me to bring up a good point for last year.
So last year Scott Laden got traded to la. If you watch a game between LA and Toronto, Lawton scores a goal or got an assist or something on the power play.
Nice. Bumped him and they chirped and he wanted to fight him. Lawton just wanted him.
Laden, who is one of the. Apparently in the NHL, one of the most locker room character guys Think of it in the summer when Nylander and Nyes were at the game when McKenna got the. Got a draft. They were. Got announced that we want to pick that clip. That was you. You see that they're friends. So you hope. And I'm. And he said nice that he loves all those guys over there. But you wonder if there's some locker room dynamic. But I'm not going to set that rumor. I. It's just interesting to me because I, I love Matthew Nyes as a player and I wish he was still a Leaf Mareno.
Gotta love him if you're a Leaf fan. So that's a great return.
So not saying that. Nothing against that, but NY's the type of guy that in the playoffs he's going to get you to that next level. But. But what do we not know? Okay. That's my thing. What do we not know
[01:08:27] Speaker B: that's true for anything. Right? Like. Like that's why they call us armchair gms and armchair coaches and
[01:08:35] Speaker A: armchairs are really nice com here. That's why
[01:08:38] Speaker B: it is. But that's why we're sitting here and we're not up there. You know where, where Kyle Dubas is. But the. Yeah. You don't, you don't know anything about what's going on in any locker room or any management or. And there's gonna be. I
[01:08:53] Speaker A: don't think anything happened with Knives. I'm just reading into it a little bit. The kind of Hellbuck thing though. Yeah, that's a
[01:08:58] Speaker B: distraction. Sometimes guys just don't gel. Sometimes you just. I don't
[01:09:01] Speaker A: know. They're a valuable asset and you can make your team better.
[01:09:03] Speaker B: That too.
[01:09:06] Speaker A: When they
[01:09:06] Speaker B: traded knives from Archenko, I was like, oh what?
Like why are you trading away a grinder guy for like kind of like a guy who
[01:09:15] Speaker A: scraps the puck
[01:09:16] Speaker B: but man, he is so fast and I think he fits. He. He fits
[01:09:22] Speaker A: in well
[01:09:22] Speaker B: with Nylander, Matthews, McKenna, Tavares. When he's healthy. When he's healthy. But love
[01:09:29] Speaker A: Johnny T. Everybody.
[01:09:30] Speaker B: Well, it just.
Yeah, you. Nobody knows.
[01:09:34] Speaker A: So a few more points before we wrap up the show. Yeah. Top chat.
Are NHL players getting too much control over where they play? This is where it's going to get right into the thumbnail. We saved the best for last year. Okay. We got about 5 ish ish minutes to use here of time.
So we want to make sure that we are be manageable with time. So our NHL players gaining too much control over where they play truths.
[01:10:02] Speaker B: Well, I don't know.
Yes. No.
[01:10:07] Speaker A: Yes.
[01:10:07] Speaker B: Maybe different.
[01:10:09] Speaker A: Indifference.
[01:10:10] Speaker B: It's the, it's the, it's the salary, it's the payment. Right. That.
[01:10:14] Speaker A: But it's also the no movement. The
[01:10:16] Speaker B: movement. The no this, no that. Well, it's. It's obviously it's good. You have a family of a wife, you have kids and you want to. You want to put
[01:10:23] Speaker A: stabilize
[01:10:24] Speaker B: somewhere
[01:10:24] Speaker A: but if you sign somewhere to stay and it's good. I like. I'm Not. I don't want to use this as an intention for another clip to upload. But yes, I think players are choosing dictating every term you want to go, but it's based on their contract. You're a free agent. Sign where you want, sign where you want to. That's your privilege. But you sign no movement clause, you're stuck.
[01:10:47] Speaker B: That's like, yeah, you can't even minors.
[01:10:49] Speaker A: Yeah, you're stuck.
You want to request a trade, by all means, try to keep it private. Like Hellebuck should have kept it private.
Now he's like, jerseys are burning, Winnipeg. Like you wouldn't believe. Fast.
[01:11:02] Speaker B: Did he try?
[01:11:03] Speaker A: He did try and he said that nothing was done, but it doesn't take a month to trade a star player.
[01:11:08] Speaker B: So then he like put pressure on the
[01:11:10] Speaker A: Exactly.
[01:11:10] Speaker B: Org by going to the media and saying, man, I asked for a trade. Yeah, I.
[01:11:15] Speaker A: So look, the
[01:11:16] Speaker B: media is a problem.
[01:11:17] Speaker A: So
[01:11:18] Speaker B: I.
[01:11:19] Speaker A: Are they not the media is a problem or no movement clauses, are they a problematic for NHL organizations?
[01:11:26] Speaker B: I think it's.
It's problematic, yeah. Because things are going to happen that you can't predict, like injuries and
[01:11:34] Speaker A: so should they be offered?
I don't think so.
If you're making over 20 mil. Cale Makar, Connor McDavid, Auston Matthews in his next one, celebrating his next one because he's only at 18. Only you hit the 2 or you hit a tier. I've said this on the show. Then. Then you can have your little no movement clause. But if you request a trade, it's voided. I'll say that to passion and on the show.
[01:12:01] Speaker B: How did that even start? Do we even know how it started? No movement clauses. And
[01:12:06] Speaker A: that's a good question. There's a lot of history to it. It's been around for a while, but now more players get it because it gets the security to go somewhere. But if you're Conor Hellbach and signed it, I'll say right now that this is where it compares to the, to the. To the. To the NBA.
LeBron, right, went to Miami. You know, he. He look at Golden State was one of the only teams they did sign. Durant, don't get me wrong, but they built that team draft. Nobody looks at the Golden State warriors and they should not forget Draymond Green Clay, Stefan Curry. Those guys were drafted. Durant's the only guy they brought in because they could have. LeBron went to Miami. LeBron went back to Cleveland. LeBron went to the Lakers. Right.
Kawhi left the Raptors with Paul Joy. Absolutely.
Just dismantling the LA Clippers franchise to be nothing now. And the Oklahoma City Thunder used all those picks to draft the in trade for the best player in the NBA right now. Sga and look at homegrown and the guys that they drafted built through the draft has been success. And I'm not here to talk basketball because we're on top top Chad right now. But it's coming like the NBA because players can choose where they go. And again it's five players. You know, in comparison to a full roster of guys. The NBA still has players. It's a different league. But the NBA, that's where the interest has been lost because players just go somewhere because they want to have the sandals on and they want to be on the team that they want to be on. And that's what's starting to happen in the National Hockey League. Brady Tkachuk leaving the Senators to go play with his brother. Oh, how cute. Go play with your brother. Maybe stay with the team and win a championship or somewhere and be a difference maker. But no, you want to put your flip flops on Brian Marchand no going from Boston to Florida and he stayed there. He got paid six years until he's 43. He's going to stay there. I know people chirp for Marsh Ana's contract. He doesn't count in this. There's absolutely no way Macklin Salbrini, Canadian boy resigning and sign Jose making the bank. But I'm sure he's loving going to the rink and his flip flops. Right? Like the people are going to the notion of trying to play in these areas where they're with their brother, with their Somewhere where it's hot, somewhere where the pressure's less. Somewhere where they're in their home country, AKA Halabak and Kachak. And really if you sign a contract with a team or you have a no movement clause or you're drafted somewhere, there's nothing better than winning it. Somewhere where you put your loyalty in or if you've committed to otherwise than that your no movement clause should be voided or you know what? I think it tarnishes your legacy if you're not loyal to
[01:14:35] Speaker B: the second you.
I honestly kind of agree with you. But like the second you
[01:14:39] Speaker A: kind of
[01:14:40] Speaker B: say, well I don't know, like I don't. I think it's just too big of a problem right now to solve immediately. So it's probably going to have to like they're going to have to rein it in a little bit. Like Slowly and kind of.
[01:14:53] Speaker A: Do you see it like the NBA or is that a. Is that too far of a reach? Well, it's
[01:14:58] Speaker B: weird. It. I don't know. I don't really follow the NBA. But it's weird how like Hellbuck can come out and say like I want to. I want to be moved. He had a no movement clause. So he can come out and say I
[01:15:09] Speaker A: want to move,
[01:15:10] Speaker B: but only to this. These teams. Like if you have a no movement clause and you want to move, then you should just. That should be gone. Like you. So I guess I agree with
[01:15:25] Speaker A: you. Void.
[01:15:26] Speaker B: It should be gone because you want to move. It's not like you signed a no move, a no trade clause with a list of specific teams which you can do or a list of whatever. Right.
[01:15:40] Speaker A: We want to trade you as a team, then we got signs or you say no as a player, you have the right to say
[01:15:45] Speaker B: no. You. That's what I mean. Like we want to move. You know, they could say no, no. But
[01:15:51] Speaker A: yes,
[01:15:51] Speaker B: now that they want out, it's like, well, I want to leave but not there. Like so it's like
[01:15:55] Speaker A: so you know what you're gonna do? Park your. Park your butt in the press box right
[01:16:00] Speaker B: here
[01:16:00] Speaker A: in the armchair gm Come. Come on the game sports podcast because.
And you can wait till you're traded five years into your contract when you haven't played for five years.
[01:16:11] Speaker B: Maybe that's. Maybe that's it.
[01:16:12] Speaker A: So it's coming like the NBA in my opinion only because teams are like getting built like super teams. But I'll give credit to the NBA though is teams that have wanted have been dynasties like Golden State did do it through the draft.
[01:16:24] Speaker B: Yeah,
[01:16:25] Speaker A: I know Kevin Durant's a hot topic on that because of what not. But the Raptors beat the Golden State warriors just so you know, in 2019. Just remind everybody but teams like Miami and the day and San Antonio spurs were built the draft. The bulls in the 90s draft.
Let me give you a little hint. In the NBA, build your team through the draft and build a culture that people are going to be attracted to your environment with.
[01:16:48] Speaker B: You know who's good at building a culture Draft.
[01:16:52] Speaker A: Who?
[01:16:53] Speaker B: Sue Grahams
[01:16:54] Speaker A: fact.
[01:16:55] Speaker B: They are.
[01:16:56] Speaker A: It was also very good at building through the draft before when I was a kid, the Red Wings
[01:17:00] Speaker B: they were
[01:17:01] Speaker A: and they still are, still are. But now that team is just. I don't know what happened. The iser plan I thought was going to be the best thing. Lin wants out, Edmondson wants out.
Players want out.
[01:17:13] Speaker B: Eisenman and Shanahan just. Did they, you know.
[01:17:17] Speaker A: Yeah,
[01:17:17] Speaker B: Shanahan's in New Jersey now. Is that the thing?
[01:17:19] Speaker A: He went somewhere? Yeah, he went somewhere else with Sunny and then Eiserman stepped off or upgrade himself. Sorry, Sean Horn.
[01:17:25] Speaker B: You hate the players going for the sun, so you just want to play there because it's nice out.
[01:17:30] Speaker A: Yeah, literally. That's all people.
That's all I feel like people want to do. But I guess Connor had a block going to New Jersey. It's not like Florida, so, you know, I thought he'd be on the San Jose Sharks or the Florida. If you went to Florida, there'd be a lockout. It's like the Dodgers. There'd be a lockout. I'm telling you right now. Lockout.
[01:17:45] Speaker B: Got their goalie.
[01:17:46] Speaker A: Yeah. Markstrom. Too bad he's getting traded somewhere else. You're gonna go play and we're getting hollaback. That's what it sounds like. Feels like. All right, Trudes. This has been a fun episode, my friend.
Whole thing you had me at the beginning just giving you a whole bunch of strike zone and in the pocket nonsense where I had to even pull up my phone to confirm a time because I didn't write down the time. But you know what?
[01:18:05] Speaker B: Clocks go back.
[01:18:06] Speaker A: Clocks do go back. And I wanted to make sure I confirmed the times for you to do that. Talked Chuck a puck into a full extent today. It was fantastic, my friend. And you're dressed for the occasion. You got the poppy on. I'm missing it. I'll have it next week, folks. Okay.
[01:18:19] Speaker B: I'm a little early.
[01:18:20] Speaker A: I forgot a few things. It's Monday. Okay, It's Monday.
[01:18:22] Speaker B: Monday.
[01:18:22] Speaker A: And then of course, finishing with Top. Chad, you sub it in for Brandon Hike. And even the other casuals, Par. And Dane, you fit right in, my friend. It was awesome.
[01:18:31] Speaker B: Yeah, it was fun.
[01:18:32] Speaker A: It's always a good time.
[01:18:33] Speaker B: It's fun. That's. It's all I got is a great time. Just sitting here chatting
[01:18:38] Speaker A: and having a good time. Talking about sports.
[01:18:39] Speaker B: Time talking about sports

[01:18:42] Speaker B: In our new studio.
[01:18:43] Speaker A: Come a long way from a phone on a cup.
[01:18:45] Speaker B: There you go.
[01:18:45] Speaker A: Long way, everybody. All right, so next week, Trudes and I will be back and we expect the roster back. We expect Brandon to be back next week. Heel should be back next week.
